From its inception, Krav Maga was designed for street fighting. It is the culmination of years of experience in actual combat. As the battlefields of the world change, so does Krav Maga. It is constantly going through refinement and improvement. Tactics of the bad guys evolve as they try to stay one step ahead of the good guys. That’s why the self defense system you choose needs to be flexible. KMETC is at the forefront of this R&D and provides integration of these new concepts into your training. Our training center has the only two civilians licensed to teach the military and law enforcement Krav Maga programs in the state of Washington. It is one of the few training centers in the country that can offer this real-world experience.
Krav Maga was created by Imi Sde-Or (Lichtenfeld) for the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) and other national security forces. Forged in the brutal street fighting of pre-WWII Europe, Krav Maga evolved out of necessity into a comprehensive, easy-to-learn combat system. Based on his training from his policeman father, boxing and wrestling, Imi was able to protect the Jewish neighborhoods from the budding Nazi and Fascist street gangs. So effective was Krav Maga that the Gestapo put out warnings for their personnel to be wary of Imi and the youths that joined and trained with him.
After an amazing adventure in which he almost died, Imi reached Palestine. There he was approached by what would become the founding members of the IDF to develop and teach a fighting system that would be effective, quick to learn and applicable in real world combat. He succeeded. As the state of Israel flourished, Krav Maga was refined and improved. This legacy of open-minded training and a relentless pursuit of excellence continues in the IDF and the Israeli Police Forces to this day.
After firmly establishing Krav Maga for the military, it was then adapted to fit civilian needs. It was designed so that ordinary citizens, young and old, men and women alike can successfully use it, regardless of their physical strength. The techniques are natural and follow your body’s instinctive movements. Imi thought that it was just as important to teach control and moderation as it was to teach viciousness and aggression. He knew that this balance of qualities would make safer communities and encourage a self-sufficient attitude in the populace. It is this blend of hard and soft, reason and brutality that we try to achieve.
The Krav Maga Eastside Training Center was opened by the Masaoka brothers in 2006. It is the longest running Krav Maga Worldwide School in the Seattle area. Chris and Nick are the only two civilians in the state to hold both Expert ratings in civilian and Advanced Law Enforcement/Military Krav Maga. They actively train with members of some of the most elite private security, military and law enforcement personnel in the world. They strive to keep their school as close to the IDF model of Krav Maga as possible. Always looking to innovate and find a better way, the brothers and their cadre of instructors bring a unique real world view of modern combat. They train rough and aggressively but always with the students safety (on the street and on the mats) as the primary concern. They bring stress to each class to inoculate students against surprise and the “fight or flight” panic of a real encounter. Their experiences with Law Enforcement and Military personnel give them unique insights into how violence evolves and morphs in the real world. These lessons are distilled and applied to the classes to sharpen their students’ awareness and understanding of fighting. Confidence is the ultimate goal for a Krav Maga Eastside student – confident that they’re prepared for whatever the world may throw at them.
